Approval conditions

This service is approved to provide education and care to children from birth to over preschool age, not including school children. Only children under 24 months of age can access the level 1 nursery outdoor play area (street front) in Building 2 – In the Garden. An approved alternative solution relating to Performance Criteria P4 Outdoor play facilities within SP5.4 - Child Care Centres of the Queensland Development Code (with a publication date of 16 November 2007) applies to this service. It is a condition of Building 2 (levels 3, 4 and 5) – In the Wild that: - natural vegetation in the planter boxes provided in the ‘enclosed’ outdoor area must be maintained at all times which is equivalent of 4% of the minimum outdoor play space required for this area in at least the location outlined in the application; and - the plantings in these planters must consist of healthy 'live' plants including some in a height range of 1.2 metres or higher; and - programming must provide opportunities for children to participate in activities which reflect on nature; and - the balustrades used on the three sides of the balcony must have no gaps or 'foot holds' at any height or if necessary, any gap must be positioned at a height of at least 1200mm from the floor; and - consideration must be given to the location of the planter boxes and timber box seats and ensure that they are positioned in a place that does not allow them to be used by children as a step to attempt to climb any perimeter balustrade. Planter boxes and plants are monitored regularly and unacceptable risks will be addressed immediately. This condition applies to Building 2 (level 3, 4 and 5) - In the Wild only. Fire stairs between level 4 and 5 in Building 2 – In the Wild are only to be used during an emergency evacuation process. This may include evacuation drills. This condition applies to Building 2 (level 3, 4 and 5) - In the Wild only. The Approved Provider must engage an appropriate expert, such as a person/entity holding a Queensland Building and Construction Commission licence in Emergency Procedures, a fire safety advisor or fire safety engineer, to observe and report on one full rehearsal at least annually by the end of May. A copy of the annual evacuation outcome report, including any recommendations for actioning is to be supplied to the Regional Office of the Regulatory Authority in which the service is located within 7 days upon receipt of the report by the Approved Provider.
